Each year from the TOPGUN recruitment program, Hutcheon and Pearce employs at least 12 new apprentices into the High Performance Academy (HPA) across all Branches in the organisation.
There are several career options:
- Become an Apprentice Service Technician working in both the workshop and in the field. Over the 4 years, you will complete a Certificate 111 in Agricultural Mechanical Technology at RITAFE and the John Deere HPA School in Wagga with all H&P apprentices. You will attend the HPA classes one week per month for 7 months in your first 3 years. The final year provides you with the opportunity to consolidate your TAFE learning into practice and specialise in a certain product area, if you are so inclined. In time, you may develop into a Diagnostic Ag Technician with a speciality in a particular product range, a Foreman or Service Manager and work towards your John Deere Master’s qualification.
- Become an Apprentice Parts Sales Interpreter working behind the counter face to face with customers, on the road selling parts, on the phone interpreting a customer’s requirements, in the warehouse working with the inventory or with the Service Team to source parts and attachments for a customer’s repair work or a new machinery delivery. Over the 4 years, you will complete a Certificate 111 in Agricultural Mechanical Technology with all apprentices at RITAFE and the John Deere HPA School in Wagga. You will do several electives from the Certificate 111 in Parts Interpreting to ensure you have exposure to Parts and Sales processes. The final year provides you with the opportunity to consolidate your TAFE learning into practice. In time, you may develop into a Team Leader or Manager in the Parts Department responsible for the Department’s operations and your team.
- Become an Apprentice Sales Representative working with the Turf and Utility and Small Agricultural Equipment in your first few years. Over the 4 years, you will complete a Certificate 111 in Agricultural Mechanical Technology with all apprentices at RITAFE and the John Deere HPA School in Wagga. You will do several electives from the Certificate 111 in Automotive Sales to ensure you have exposure to Selling processes. The final year provides you with the opportunity to consolidate your TAFE learning into practice and specialise if you so are inclined.
- A combination option of all of the above may be establish based on need in a particular Branch or combination of Branches. An apprentice may be assigned to the Service, Sales, TECSight or Parts department and spend time in each over the first 3 years. They shall complete their Cert III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology. The final year provides the roaming department apprentice with the opportunity to consolidate their TAFE learning into practice and specialise in the choice of department to determine the best fit for the organisation at the time.
As an apprentice you will attend “Orientation week” in February to meet your teachers, the H&P Management Team, your support network and your dedicated HR Mentor.
Your HR Mentor shall be your direct liaison throughout your four year journey and will coach, train, guide you and manage your apprenticeship administration.
You will be provided with a formal induction program that guides your learning and development over your 4 years and embeds your RITAFE training with the John Deere University, HPA GROW personal Development programs, hands on –on the job buddy training, semi-formal workshops and formal sessions on John Deere systems and H&P processes.
